Disgraced former hurler DJ Carey has been transferred from Mountjoy prison to the Mater Hospital, where he will stay for a number of nights.
The 54-year-old Kilkenny man is currently serving a five-and-a-half year sentence for defrauding people through a fake cancer scam.
The amount totals to nearly €400,000 and $13,000, while just under €45,000 has been paid back.
It is unclear how many nights in total he will spend in hospital, under watch from prison guards, and what exactly his health issue is.
Prior to his prison sentence he was in hospital for an ongoing heart condition.
