Diarmuid Connolly’s Conor McGregor call-out is just class

What a duo

Niall McIntyre

Imagine Diarmuid Connolly and Conor McGregor going at it in the boxing ring. What a sight it would be.

Connolly is currently serving a 12-week suspension for pushing linesman Ciaran Branagan in Dublin’s Leinster Championship victory over Carlow.

The St Vincents club man isn’t taking it easy in his 12 weeks off from the game, however.

Connolly took to Instagram on Thursday night to post a picture from Darndale boxing club and he looks in better shape than ever.

Pictured with Connolly is Thomas Hardwicke, a man who won the Golden Gloves Boxing Championships in New York on 25 March 2010.

A smiling Connolly went on to call-out Conor McGregor, in response to McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, who claimed on Thursday morning that Connolly should take up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to help control his emotions during games.

Kavanagh claimed in the Herald on Thursday morning that he believes some training in discipline could help Connolly control his emotions during tense situations in games.

For players that would get caught up in the moment like that and shove an official, knowing very well what it leads to, it’s an automatic ban when you do that right, in GAA?

So he knew what the consequences were and yet couldn’t control himself, so I would definitely as a coach see that as a worrying trait.

I would definitely encourage him to do something about it. Training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, would that help? Maybe.

We doubt Connolly will be taking up Brazilian jiu-jitsu anytime soon, but we would love to see him in the ring with The Notorious.
