Derry GAA in shock after death of club player at training

Tragic

The St Aidan’s Magilligan club in Derry is trying to come to terms with a massive tragedy to hit the club last night after one of the club’s best known players passed away suddenly.

Steven Deeney collapsed at a training session being held at the Roe Valley Leisure Centre,and despite medical attention being on the scene within five minutes, he passed away.

Magilligan play junior football in Derry and were in the process of pre-season training for the coming months when the tragedy occurred.

Tributes are being paid to the well liked and well known father of one as club chairman Peter Mullan said everyone in the area is deeply shocked by the tragedy

Steven was the heart and soul of the club, and he was very active in anything that was going on in the club. It’s a great loss to the club and to everyone. He was a much loved and respected club member, and will be sadly missed.’

Derry GAA has also issued a statement via its website on the tragic death of the 33-year-old.
