David Gough tears into the GAA for latest money making scheme

He was not happy.

All-Ireland final referee David Gough has ripped into the GAA for their latest money making scheme, and has suggested a much more ‘generous’ solution.

The GAA have recently announced that they are selling a number of seats from the Cusack Stand in Croke Park as they prepare for renovations this winter.

36,000 seats total will be removed and replaced ahead of the 2024 championships, at the cost of about €2.8 million to the GAA, but in attempt to make some of this money back, they offered to sell the seats to fans.

Croke Park posted the following announcement on social media:

“A very limited number of commemorative seats from Croke Park will go on sale midday tomorrow. These seats are sold only in pairs and will be numbered & have a commemorative plaque on the back.

“Due to the limited availability, seats will be sold on a first come first served basis.”

It has since been revealed that they are only selling 250 of these seats, in order to “preserve the novelty and value of the items” (per the Independent) something which Gough took exception with.

The match official took to social media and shared his outrage with the situation.

“Imagine if @CrokePark did something generous for a change instead of making money.

“Gift a pair of seats to lucky schools, who could use them as Buddy seats on yard…..if a child sits on it during playtime, schoolmates notice they have nobody to play with and invite them to join.”

The Meath native was not the only person who had a problem with the GAA’s attempt to make some extra cash here, and social media was full of people calling the GAA ‘The Grab All Association.’

Joe Brolly rips the GAA a new one with six emphatic words on ‘seat sale’.

Joe Brolly also gave his opinion on the matter, but he wasn’t quite as diplomatic as Gough, and managed to sum up his thoughts in six simple words.

“What in the name of f*ck?”

That was pretty much the common consensus on the news.
