David Clifford put on a magic show once more as he inspired Fossa to the Kerry intermediate club football final.
Whether he’s in a rural GAA club in the back-side of Kerry or the K club in silky Straffan, it doesn’t seem to matter to the 24-year-old who, wherever he goes, has been producing a trail of highlight reels over the last few weeks.
This Sunday was no different.
0-13, 0-10 from play, including a late, great leveller that sent the game to penalties.
The boy wonder also roofed a penalty in the shoot-out as Fossa, for so long a junior club, overcame the mighty Austin Stacks to leave themselves just one hour away from becoming a senior team.
Austin Stacks were Munster club finalists two years ago, when Fossa were in the junior grade.
But the small club on the outskirts of Killarney, blessed by the coming-of-age of the brilliant brothers, have conquered all before them these last few years and they’re showing no signs of stopping now.
It would be remiss of us not to mention David’s brother Paudie, who covered so much ground in the game that it’s hard to say what position he was chosen to play in.
One thing we can say for sure is that he kicked five from play before rolling in a penalty with all the coolness of an ice-cube on a hot day.
Shane O’Sullivan, the brilliant Fossa ‘keeper who made three penalty saves also deserves a mention. Milltown/Castlemaine are next up in the final. They’ll have their work cut out trying to stop these boys.
