David Brady dashes all our dreams of a Mayo football god having joined Twitter

So near, yet so far

Surely some mistake?

If you’re publicity shy then we thought Twitter would be the last place in the world that you’d put your head.

But it seemed that for one Mayo football god the pressure finally got to him. Or did it?

Ahead of the All-Ireland senior football semi-final, we were massively excited to see that Ciaran McDonald would now be able to give his thoughts on the GAA world from the safety of a keyboard.

The Mayo legend is one of the most notoriously shy men in the GAA, and hardly any of us even knew what he sounded like until his interview on Second Captains earlier this year.

But as befitting a man who is beloved not only in Mayo, but nationwide, the ‘Ciaran McDonald’ account acquired plenty of Twitter followers in no time at all.

But the account is not all that it seems unfortunately as the intrepid detective David Brady sussed out earlier this afternoon with some sterling investigative journalism.

Still, it was nice while it lasted. And the account is now deleted.

If the real Ciaran McDonald would like to get in touch though, he knows where we are.
