Are you in your twenties? Can you play a bit of hurling?
If so, and you’re free to come to Dublin next Tuesday, May 24th, then you could find yourself starring in a television advertisement.
Or at least appearing in a television advertisement.
Movieextras.ie have put a call out for hurlers in their twenties to appear in a television advertisement, with auditions happening next Tuesday and filming the following Wednesday, June 1st.
We all knew hurling had become a young man’s game but the threshold of 29 is cutting out some serious hurlers, such as Eoin Larkin, Lar Corbett and, of course, Tony Browne.
Hurling has been depicted on screen a few times in the past, with various levels of success.
There was the opening scene of ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ which, unlike other parts of the movie, was nowhere near as painful as pulling fingernails.
Then the classic 1998 All-Ireland Championship ad from Guinness, which recreated Tom Dempsey’s battles with Eddie O’Connor.
And then, of course, there is the classic Jason Statham line from the, ahem, classic movie ‘Blitz’… A mix between hockey and murder.
If you think you could act your way out of a paper bag better than Statham, get yourself down for an audition. It’s unlikely there will be any murder… or hockey.
