Buff Egan gives the gift of perfect coverage of Tony Kelly’s great masterclass

Patrick McCarry

Richie Hogan was simply in awe of the Clare hurler’s scoring feats.

Tony Kelly is a joy to behold on most days. When he gets into his scoring stride, you just sit back and take it in, in all its glory.

The Clare forward is one of the classiest operators out there and he was in the zone in the senior hurling championship in his home county this evening.

Kelly’s Ballyea played out a thriller with Cratloe where attack was on top for large swathes.

Ballyea, who were beaten by Cuala in the 2017 All-Ireland final, beat their Clare rivals 2-30 to 3-23 and Kelly was to the fore.

The 24-year-old scored 1-11 from play and when Cratloe stopped him it was often by foul means, leading to some handy frees for Ballyea.

The game was not televised so it was left to Buff Egan to keep hurling fans in the loop via Snapchat. One of hurling’s most passionate supporters, Egan was at the right place at the perfect time and raved about Kelly’s performance.

That was enough for Kilkenny star Richie Hogan to dive into Egan’s Snapchats, only to behold that majestic scoring salvo all for himself. He declared:

‘One of the greatest displays from one of the greatest players ever to pick up a stick!’

High praise from the Cats star.

We can only hope that full footage of this game will surface in the coming days. If not, you know where to go.
