Money beats sport again
As unique sporting events go last year’s Croke Park Classic between Penn State and the University of Central Florida was a pretty resounding success.
Kerry and Mayo football fans may not have liked it as it meant their All-Ireland football replay went to Limerick, but overall the feeling was positive to the massive money-spinner for the GAA and the Dublin tourism industry.
It was hoped that the GAA would confirm early this year the details for the renewal of the event next season, but tonight it seems that we may be waiting a while to see American football action in Drumcondra again.
In a very brief statement issued by the GAA, they have confirmed that plans to host another Croke Park Classic in 2016 have been shelved due to economic reasons
We understand the huge amount of time that goes into organising any event but we’d be hopeful that there may be some way to try and get around the excuse that the exchange rates are the reason for its demise.
Any chance with an election next year someone in government might find a few extra bob to get the Yanks over here?
