Children going to school with hurls are a regular sight in Kilkenny city, and the county’s fever for all matters hurling is unparalleled in Ireland.
It’s probably the reason why they are the standard bearers when it comes to the stick and sliotar game, and that fact is being publicly marked this week in the marble city.
This Thursday a special sculpture, more than three years in the making, will be unveiled in the city, and Kilkenny residents are eager to see the finished product.
This is the scale version of the moument which fans will see later this week.
The monument, crafted by Clareman Barry Wrafter features 3 hurlers, in black and amber, with hurls and helmets, reaching for a sliotar.
The sculpture will be unveiled at Canal Square at John’s Bridge in the city this Thursday morning.
