That’s it now.
The season is coming to a close, Christmas is just around the corner and unless you are lucky enough to be playing in the provincial club championships that’s all she wrote for most of us.
We may have been happy with our season or it might have been one of those that just passed you by but no matter what the case there is always room to improve.
Some people like to make out a list of things they want to achieve at the start of each season but for most of us, we just make a load of empty promises.
They are mainly left unfulfilled because we don’t manage our expectations but here are some of the bullsh*t ones we make to ourselves.
Go for a run every morning
Look, you’ve never been the fittest but you want 2018 to be a new year for you. Sure, it’s a great idea to go to bed an hour earlier and get up that extra hour before work and go for a 5-kilometre run, it’ll wake you up and bring on your cardio some amount.
But it never happens, you might go once and then can’t get out of bed or it’s raining and it’s not worth it.
Oh well…
Work on sprints
One on one going to the ball we can always improve, you’re thinking of buying a set of resistance bands and go to the local pitch to do some sprints.
By the time January comes you’ll be flying and well able to match any man on your team.
Much like the jog in the morning as soon as the bad weather hits you use that as an excuse.
Buy a gym membership
We’ve all wanted that stellar six pack but don’t really want to work for it either but this is the year, you’ll go and buy a gym membership and come in bigger and stronger for the new season, get a headstart before the team gym sessions.
But then you remember Christmas is around the corner and you can’t afford to fork out that much cash.
Shed a few pounds
It’s time to lose the love handles, carrying that bit of body fat isn’t helping anyone. Between the jog every morning, the sprints and the gym membership you’ll be in some shape.
You know it’s all about cleaning up the diet, discipline and consistency but that ain’t gonna happen.
Bulk up
In the long term plan you’ll be nearly there, dropped the few pounds and be on the road to fitness so with the gym membership that you plan to buy you’ll really bulk up for a couple of months.
You’re already going to be fitter and faster than everyone else on your team so you may as well be stronger too.
HA! No chance.
Go out kicking or pucking every day in some shape or form
There’s a nice big wall near your house, you plan to use it.
Left foot, right foot, left side, right side, be the player you always wanted to be.
You’ll go down and do some shooting and become more of a scoring threat, no one will see it coming.
This may be the ones you have the best intentions for but, like all things on the list, it just never happens.
Come into preseason fitter than ever
You can see it now, all the lads meet up to discuss their goals for the season and you can imagine yourself with a sense of smugness about how far ahead of the game you are.
The first training session comes in January and the first fitness test and BAM out of nowhere you’re top of the pile.
But it will stay a daydream and preseason will be the same as every, you struggling like the rest of them.
Take it easy over Christmas
Okay, last Christmas your body and your wallet didn’t thank you despite the fun.
It’s not happening again though, you’ll enjoy yourself but not overindulge because preseason is just around the corner.
Less Pints
Okay, no chance of this happening in honesty. You entertain it for a little bit but even you know deep down it’s ridiculous.
