Bloody hell, Zlatan. You’ve only just moved clubs.
He’s not even kicked a ball for Manchester United yet, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already speaking about where his future lies.
The Swede, who is believed to have trained with his new club for the first time on Tuesday, is preparing for his first season in England at the ripe old age of 34.
Before confirming his switch to Old Trafford, some stories had speculated that he might have been plotting a move across the Atlantic for a crack at Major League Soccer. Gradually, those reports subsided before it was eventually confirmed (by him) that he would be heading to Manchester.
But in an interview with Goal, Ibrahimovic has confirmed that he is very much interested in heading to America after his stint at United is up, revealing that David Beckham has already asked him to join the Miami-based franchise he will be in charge of.
“David is a good friend of mine, and he has asked me to play for his (Miami) team,” he explained.
“For now, I want to achieve big things with Manchester United, but I have a lot of respect for the MLS, and anything is possible.”
Ibrahimovic played alongside Beckham at his last club, Paris Saint-Germain – the team that the former England captain played his final professional game with. We all remember this, don’t we?
Ibrahimovic has signed a one-year deal with United, but if his first year in the Premier League proves a successful one, you wouldn’t rule out a contract extension being wafted underneath his famously-prominent nose.
If he does stay for a couple of years at Old Trafford, he’ll be leaving Manchester in 2018, the year that Beckham’s Miami side are expected to make their MLS bow.
How convenient.
