Zinedine Zidane tees up Luka Modric for outrageous training ground volley

Jack O'Toole

When you’re a Ballon d’Or winner like Zinedine Zidane you don’t lose your touch.

The Real Madrid manager helped out at Los Blancos training this week by pinging a few balls towards his players as they went through some routine training drills.

The drill is basic, cross the ball across the face of goal, let the player control the pass and take a shot at goal.

It’s basic until it’s performed by Zidane and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

The Croatian has scored just 13 goals in 256 games for Madrid but his strike at training this week is about as good as a volley you’ll see outside of….. well…. his manager’s strike against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2001 Champions League final.

Real Madrid are prohibitive favourites for Saturday’s Champions League final in Kiev but Modric said that Liverpool are worthy finalists given the manner of their victories en route to the Ukranian capital.

“They weren’t one of the favourites, but when you look at the matches they’ve played you see that they deserve to be in the final,” said Modric.

“They’re a good team, they have a great coach and a very difficult match awaits us. But we will be prepared.”
