This is great to see.
Earlier this week, Dublin youngster Tyreke Wilson signed a professional contract with Manchester City, and now another Irish defender has agreed professional terms with a Premier League club.
Aaron O’Driscoll, who came through, like Wilson, at schoolboy side Cherry Orchard, has agreed to sign for Southampton.
The 17-year-old from Dublin is a central defender, who can also play in midfield. He played for City’s U-18 side last year, and has featured for the Republic of Ireland at underage level.

“I’m very happy. It’s a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started so I’m looking forward to it,” O’Driscoll told Southamton’s website.
“Hopefully I’ll establish myself with the Under-18s this season and push on into the Under-21s and see how I do. Then hopefully I can do well with the 21s and impress the new first team manager who seems to be giving youth a chance, and that’s what I want to push on and do here.”
