Anyone who has seen Anthony Martial play during his short Manchester United career to date knows the Frenchman has flair.
The most expensive teenager in the history of football is not available for tomorrow’s meeting with Watford after picking up an injury on international duty and Louis Van Gaal’s side will miss the former Monaco man.
His pace, finishing ability and trickery have made him an immediate hit with the fans and no one will be surprised to hear his favourite team to watch was Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.
“I loved their game philosophy. They had great players in every position and it really made you want to play football when you watched them play,” said Martial, who also revealed his three favourite players.
He was very careful to specify which Ronaldo he referred to, and it was not that one that used to grace the wing at Old Trafford.
“My three favourite players were Ronaldo, the Brazilian, Ronaldinho and (Zinedine) Zidane because they’re players who were beautiful to watch play and they’re ones who made me want to play football,” said Martial.
The France international announced himself in spectacular fashion, scoring a fantastic goal on his debut back in September against Liverpool. Unsurprisingly, for a man who has scored just 16 senior goals, it ranks as his favourite yet.
“I think the greatest goal I’ve ever scored is the one against Liverpool,” he said. “It was amazing for me and it really made my name in the Manchester team.”
