It’s beginning to look very green on Merseyside.

There are currently a number of promising Irish youngsters plying their trade in the underage setup at Liverpool.

Conor Masterson is one of the most well known. The Dubliner was recently invited by Jurgen Klopp to attend the first-team’s warm weather training camp in La Manga, Spain.

There is also Corey Whelan, the Republic of Ireland U21 international has been with the famous club since he was 10 years of age.

The Chester born defender is a regular member of the club’s U23 squad.

Now, the latest Irish player to sign a professional contract with Liverpool is Tallaght youngster, Glen McAuley.

The 17-year-old, formerly of Crumlin United and St. Joseph’s Boys, signed a youth contract with the reds last year and his performances since then has led to the signing of his first professional contract.

On his 17th birthday no less.

McAuley has scored 14 times for the club’s U18 side already this season.

McAuley was recently interviewed by the club’s official website, where he outlined his joy at being under the tutelage of Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, and he revealed what it feels like knowing that the man himself is watching him play.

“It makes you want to play better, doesn’t it? You try to not make mistakes,” McAuley told the club’s official website

U18 manager, Neil Critchley, also described the Dubliner as an “old fashioned centre-forward who always puts himself in goalscoring positions.”

Liverpool will hope the Irish youngster will continue his impressive form and the tying down of a pro deal so quickly after his arrival at the club is a sure sign of the potential they see in him.

For McAuley, he revealed that the family nature of the club was a key reason in him signing in the first place.

It also helps that his Dad is a Liverpool fan too!
