24 hours after Aston Villa announced the arrival of John Terry using a spoof WhatsApp group conversation, another club got creative with an unveiling.
Monday didn’t just see Terry join Villa on a one-year deal but it also marked the beginning of the 77th series of hit daytime game show, Countdown.
And, given the occasion that’s in it, what better way is there for a new arrival to be announced than with the help of Rachel Riley and an inventive letters round for the club’s supporters?
That’s what Yeovil Town’s social media manager was thinking on Tuesday afternoon as the below tweet was posted at lunchtime, allowing fans thirty minutes to figure out who the Glovers had added to their squad.

The answers were typically varied but, given the fact that teams’ links with certain players tend to appear multiple times in the media before pen is put to paper, it didn’t take long for some to figure it out.

And, with football being football, there was more than enough pessimism to go around.
Is it Rachel Riley? Probably more useful than some if last years squad….
