Xavi picks his dream five-a-side team and it’s as excellent as it is predictable

The maestro nails it

You’re going to hear a lot of mentions of Xavi over the next 24 hours as he prepares himself for his final Barcelona game.

The Spanish legend is bowing out on the grandest stage of all, the Champions League final, and ahead of the game he picked his dream five-a-side team for UEFA.com.

We’re not going to say a word about the fact that he picked himself in the side because, as he says: “I’ve put myself in the team so I can enjoy it.”

Only one player with whom he’s not currently playing, Victor Valdes, makes the team but the pair did play together for 12 years so his choice of goalkeeper does make sense.

He picks himself to play alongside the more defence-minded Sergio Busquets with long-time teammate Andres Iniesta playing slightly more advanced.

There was no doubt as to who Xavi would pick up top and it’s the little magician himself, Lionel Messi, who got the shout.
