Will Ferrell throws his hat into the ring to play Jamie Vardy in planned movie

Make it happen...

Leicester City won the league last season. You might have heard.

A significant factor in the Foxes’ successful Premier League season was (of course), the free-scoring, cast-wearing Jamie Vardy – who bagged 24 goals over the course of the season, surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for goals in successive league games in the process.

His rise from non-league Stocksbridge Park Steels to record-breaking top-flight goal machine had reportedly turned the head of a Hollywood scriptwriter as far back as last November. At the time, it seemed ridiculous. Now, as Leicester prepare to begin the defence of their title, the wheels are very much in motion on Jamie Vardy: The Movie.

We’ve already learned that Vinnie Jones has been lined up to play Vardy’s former Leicester boss, Nigel Pearson, but there’s also been plenty of speculation as to who will play the leading role. Initially, reports claimed that Zac Effron could be in line to play the Leicester number nine, whereas Jimmy Bullard also expressed an interest in the role.

Now, none other than Will Ferrell has thrown his hat into the ring.

Being a couple of decades older than Vardy, the 49-year-old star of Anchorman stated that he’d be able to play him “in his later, fatter years” when asked about the role in the interview with CNN.

Ferrell was speaking as Leicester players visited an event hosted by Los Angeles FC – the new MLS club that Ferrell co-owns with basketball legend Magic Johnson and former US women’s soccer star Mia Hamm.

You may recall how ridiculously excited LAFC were about the launch of their badge earlier in the year.
