Will David De Gea sign a new deal? ‘No problem’ says Louis van Gaal

The Spanish goalkeeper has excelled for the Red Devils

Soothing words but Manchester United pulses will only settle once the Spaniard puts pen to paper

Louis van Gaal has moved quick to dismiss any speculation about David de Gea’s future at the club.

The Dutchman found de Gea the subject of choice for most reporters at his Friday press briefing, rather than new goalkeeper signing Victor Valdes or the club’s clearing injury list.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been United’s best player this season but is yet to sign a contract extension to his current deal, which expires in 18 months’ time. Protracted contract negotiations have inevitably led to de Gea being linked with a move to Real Madrid.

‘I’m very pleased with his development,’ van Gaal told Manchester Evening News. ‘I think there is no problem for him to sign.’

‘When you are a (regular) player, then probably you are the best, and then the manager is very happy that a player that is fixed in the line-up will stay.’
