Whatever about the result, Jonas Gutierrez made his long-awaited comeback for Newcastle tonight

Too long since we've seen him in black and white

Jonas Gutierrez hadn’t made an appearance for Newcastle’s first team since 2013.

After doctors found a tumour on his testicle, Gutierrez returned to his native Argentina in October of that year when he underwent surgery.

After being given the all clear from cancer last year, he couldn’t play his way into the Magpies squad so was forced to complete a loan move to Norwich for game time.

He found himself back in the matchday squad for Newcastle at the weekend when John Carver’s side won 1-0 but the Argentina couldn’t make it onto the pitch.

But that all changed in the 65th minute of Manchester United’s  late victory over Newcastle when he saw number 18 light up the fourth official’s board.

He didn’t manage to effect the result but the St James Park support for the Argentine was clear for all to see when, after picking up a booking, the crowd responded with the loudest chorus of boos of the evening.

We’re delighted to have him back after such an ordeal.
