West Ham to ban 200 supporters following crowd trouble against Chelsea

Taking a strong stance

Simon Lloyd

West Ham are looking to ban around 200 fans following the ugly scenes that marred their EFL Cup meeting with Chelsea at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.

The club are currently examining CCTV footage from the match in an attempt to identify supporters involved in the trouble, which saw missiles such as coins and ripped-up seats thrown across a segregated area between home supporters and the Chelsea fans. Fans later rushed over the segregated area to bait rival supporters until police in riot gear managed to disperse the trouble.

According to The Guardian, the club are concerned about the the negative effect recent crowd trouble is having on their public image since their move from Upton Park and are determined to take a strong approach to those found to be involved. They are also said to be confident of identifying every single perpetrator.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time that there’s been trouble at West ham’s new home since their summer move. During their recent league match with Watford, home supporters were seen fighting with stewards and amongst themselves.

West Ham play Everton at Goodison Park this weekend but return to their new home ground for the visit of Stoke City a week on Saturday.
