Even the Championship’s Twitter is taking the Mickey out of West Ham

A miserable afternoon for West Ham

Simon Lloyd

Let’s be honest, life has been pretty grim for West Ham and their supporters since moving down the road.

Having finished last season – their last at Upton Park – by securing a place in the Europa League qualifiers, there was a sense that an exciting new chapter awaited the club at their new home.

However, that’s not quite been the case.

They didn’t make it through the qualifiers, and crowd trouble at the London Stadium marred the club’s early games at their new home.

Months later, things still aren’t clicking for Slaven Bilić’s men on the pitch.

Their latest sorry showing saw an Alexis Sanchez-inspired Arsenal run in five goals against them, with Andy Carroll’s header proving to be a consolation for the home side. Sanchez grabbed a hat-trick in the second half, adding to Mesut Özil’s opener and a late screamer from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The defeat leaves the Hammers a point above the relegation zone, making talk of a possible drop into the second tier of English football inevitable.

Well aware of this point was the person with the keys to the Sky Bet Championship’s official Twitter account, who decided to tweet the following as Alexis Sanchez and co made a mockery of West Ham’s threadbare defence.

Ouch.

Chin up though, Hammers. Liverpool away next.
