Good man, Wes

Ben Kiely

Wes Hoolahan’s tenure at Norwich was honoured last night at the Football League Awards.

In a special 10th anniversary ceremony, a Championship Team of the Decade was named which included Wes Hoolahan.

The Irish international claimed a midfield spot on the team which also boasted the likes of Gareth Bale and Liverpool duo Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.

Hoolahan joined Norwich City from Blackpool in 2008 and has become a key player for the Canaries. Hoolahan’s performances in the Championship with the club helped them earn promotion to the Premier League in 2011. The Dubliner earned a place in the Championship Team of the Year that season.

There was disappointment for Irish man Daryl Murphy though. Despite topping the goal scoring charts this season, he lost out on the Championship Player of the Year award. The accolade was given to Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford instead, who represented Ireland at U18 level.

The Football Manager Team of the Decade is as follows:

Goalkeeper: Kasper Schmeichel
Defender: Angel Rangel
Defender: Gareth Bale
Defender: Wes Morgan
Defender: Ashley Williams
Midfielder: Wes Hoolahan
Midfielder: Adam Lallana
Midfielder: Peter Whittingham
Forward: Glenn Murray
Forward: Rickie Lambert
Forward: Jordan Rhodes

Manager: Eddie Howe
