We’re big fans of the new Ajax away kit

Oh, nice

Tom Victor

Football teams’ away kits can go one of two ways.

Often they’re an afterthought, a contractual obligation that results in little more than a near-copy of the home version with the colours flipped.

But sometimes a team will use it as an opportunity to get a little more creative.

It doesn’t always work, as Swansea’s effort based on those short-lived sour apple flavour chewits goes to show.

But the latest effort from Ajax demonstrates how a bit of creativity can pay off.

Made by adidas, the colour scheme of blueish black shirts and light blue shorts is reminiscent of the German company’s iconic Spezial trainers.

The three crosses down the front of the shirt add a flourish, and gives the Dutch giants something different in an era where so many teams’ kits are panned for being near carbon copies of those of their rivals.

Even if you don’t like it, you can appreciate the effort that’s gone into this design.
