Steven Gerrard recalls Robbie Keane’s time at Liverpool fondly.
Even if he’s the only one.
The LA Galaxy pair only shared a few months together at Anfield before Keane was shipped back out but Gerrard believes that they had instant chemistry, and he’s delighted to reignite that flame.
The pair tore San Jose apart last night – Gerrard notching his first goal for the club along with an assist and a penalty that he won; Keane, well he just scored another hat-trick.
And the former Liverpool skipper had high praise for the Irish legend and their reformed partnership.
“We had that chemistry in Liverpool,” Gerrard said. “When you’re playing with good players, it’s easy to connect.
“Robbie’s on the wavelength – he’s a very intelligent player. We’ve got a great understanding.
“I’m sure that relationship is only going to get stronger. When we add [Giovani] Dos Santos into the mix as well, we could have a formidable front line moving forward.”
At 35, Gerrard believes that he still has so much more to offer with that spring in his step again. He also believes that he is more than a squad player and that’s why he had to move on.
“I don’t want to come off, I want to play as much football as I can,” he stated.
“One of the reasons why I’ve come to this team was to start all the games and play as many minutes as possible.
“I was determined not to become a squad player. I still feel like I’ve got energy, I still love the game, I’m enjoying training and I’m settling in pretty nicely.
“I’m starting to feel a little bit sharper, I’m very close to full fitness. Bruce (Arena) was shouting ‘how you doing?’ from about 60 (minutes) but I was pretending I couldn’t hear him and kept looking away.”
