Wayne Rooney has slammed the treatment he has received over the pictures of him crashing a wedding as “disgraceful”.
The England skipper was pictured on the front page of The Sun, apparently the worse for wear, after crashing a wedding at the England team hotel, and allegedly drinking until the early hours.
He faced a barrage of criticism and was forced to apologise, but after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday he spoke to reporters – and hit out at his treatment.
“I’m proud to play for my country and I’m proud of my achievements,” he said. “It’s not finished yet. I think what’s been going on is disgraceful. It shows a lack of respect and I think enough to enough. That’s all I want to say.”

On Wednesday he had issued this apology:
”Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published.
”Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.
”Earlier today Wayne spoke privately to both Gareth Southgate and [FA technical director] Dan Ashworth to unreservedly apologise.
”He would like to further extend that apology to any young fans who have seen these pictures.”
