Wayne Rooney has reportedly landed a new £800,000 two-year deal to become a regular Match of the Day pundit.
The 39-year-old former Manchester United star left his managerial position at Plymouth seven months ago, and had been linked with other managerial jobs in the EFL, including League Two side Macclesfield.
But The Sun now say he will be a regular on BBC’s flagship Saturday night football show.
Rooney has also reportedly signed up for the BBC’s 2026 World Cup coverage for the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
A Sun source said: “Wayne is a natural broadcaster; he is warm, witty and forensically knowledgeable about all aspects of the game.”
Rooney’s wife Coleen agreed a reported £10m deal with Disney in March, which will see the Rooney family appear in a documentary.
Rooney joins MOTD anchors Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan, who will rotate following the departure of Gary Lineker after 26 years hosting the show.
