Don’t call it a comeback.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the man, the myth, the legend. He’s returned.
In the build-up to Real Madrid’s 2-0 UEFA Champions League win in Roma, the gauntlet was laid for one of the greatest players of all time. He had to do it in Europe.
His 2016 form under Zidane had threatened to suggest that he was back to his prime Ronaldo self but, with Messi, Suarez and Neymar absolutely tearing it up for Barcelona, no-one was paying much attention to Cristiano’s La Liga form.
So he did it on a cold Wednesday night in Rome instead.
The Madrid star was buzzing around all evening.
He was giving the ball and powering on for the return. He was taking men on in both directions, laying on chances for team mates and trying to draw fouls in the penalty area, caught out diving in the process. But, Jesus, he was hungry. He was so hungry, he was throwing himself into challenges and constantly trying to steer Madrid back towards the Roma goal.
And, on the same night Lionel Messi hit his 300th league goal for Barca, Ronaldo refused to be overshadowed.

His own performance stole the show on a history-making night for his greatest enemy.
And, look, he even maintained his classiness and good-guy status in the face of all the boos.
