Watch: Uncapped Ireland striker equals Ronaldo and Neymar’s goals record for this season

The other Rooney

Kevin McGillicuddy

Friday night Scottish football.

Nothing to get too excited over.

Until this pops up on your timeline.

The Dubliner Adam Rooney is in the hottest of hot streaks for Aberdeen at the moment, and tonight’s goal was his 16th of the season.

It’s exactly the type of goal you just don’t see any other Irish striker scoring these days.

He may get a chance to impress Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane in the upcoming friendlies ahead of our Euro 2016 campaign, but at least one set of fans would love to see him move to a supposed bigger club.

Anthony Stokes’ move on loan to Hibernian has left Celtic needing some additional firepower, and Celtic fans tonight feel that Rooney could be just the man to partner Leigh Griffiths up front for the Premiership leaders.

And tonight’s strike means he’s now scored as many league goals as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar have managed in La Liga this season.
