He’s not angry, he’s just disappointed.
Ex-Manchester United players working in the media are like rats in a city, it seems like never you’re more than 6ft away from one.
Pundits such as Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Dwight Yorke openly display their allegiance to the club in their analysis, and therefore seem more in touch with the views of United fans.
However, we reckon Roy Keane’s take on United’s current plight arguably best resonates with the views of fans.
The Republic of Ireland assistant manager, former United captain and nemesis of Alex Ferguson was speaking on ITV following United’s exit to Liverpool in the last-16 Europa League tie on Thursday night.
United drew the game 1-1, but the damage had been done following a pitiful performance at Anfield in the first-leg when they were lost 2-0.
Rather than lay into Louis van Gaal’s side, as he did when analysing Arsenal and Manchester City earlier this week, Keane surprisingly spoke like a fan of the club when dissecting their decline.
“I’m really saddened by what I’ve seen of United over the last year or two,” Keane said.
“It’s like a bunch of strangers have been thrown together. When you play for United and you put that jersey on, I always felt 10-foot tall. But when you see these players, some of them look like they’re shrinking with the jersey on.”
