This is quiet something. Regardless of whether it’s divine or damning, it’s very special indeed.
Moussa Dembele is widely acknowledged as a very exciting footballing prospect indeed. Whilst at Fulham’s academy, the French ace was courted by both Spurs and Manchester United before eventually plumping for a move to Glasgow Celtic.
If he wanted a hospitable environment in which to hone his skills, he certainly made the right decision. To say Celtic are dominating the Premiership is something of an understatement. If it were a boxing match, it would be over some time ago.
On Wednesday night, the Hoops cruised to their 22nd straight league victory against Inverness, to move 27 points clear at the top, and within seven points of a sixth straight title. On the very first day of fucking March.
But more than those cold hard facts, it was Dembele’s first of a brace in the 4-0 win that exemplified the stark difference in quality and resources between the Bhoys and the rest. He essentially beat the whole team on his own – from their kick-off.
As the second half got under way, with the visitors already 1-0 up, the 20-year-old looked massively pumped up to have a say in proceedings. What followed was the tigerish forward acting as a force of nature that the opposition couldn’t contain.
It really was a masterclass in harrying, hustling and hurrying a team into submission. They panicked at his overbearing presence by passing the ball further and further back, until Owain Fon Williams cracked and gifted a goal.
There are so many talented Dembele’s in world football that it takes something special to stand out. One way or another, this certainly was.
