It wasn’t quite the same level as Leicester City winning the Premier League, but what happened on Sunday night in Paris was still a bloody shock.
Having played for nearly 100 minutes without their injured captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal beat much-fancied hosts France, courtesy of an extra-time goal from some bloke that couldn’t get a game at Swansea.
Equally as shocking as Portugal stunning the Stade de France was the fact that they won the match with Pepe – everyone’s favourite footballing pantomime villain – managing not to come across as a bit of a prick.
Instead, the only sick behaviour on the night came after the final whistle. Within seconds of Mark Clattenburg bringing the tournament to an end, cameras trained on the Real Madrid defender, who was so delirious with joy that he was seen throwing his guts up on the grass.
