WATCH: Newcastle fans grateful Daryl Murphy’s second touch is a hell of lot better than his first

Some finish

Patrick McCarry

Not exactly how he planned it but Daryl Murphy recovered well.

Newcastle United will be waking up on Sunday morning with a healthy lead atop the Sky Bet Championship. A surprise defeat for Brighton allied with their own positive display against Huddersfield sees them sitting pretty.

The Toon’s promotion charge faltered earlier this year but a return to full fitness and form for Murphy has certainly helped.

The Republic of Ireland striker was sidelined not long after his summer transfer window move from Ipswich Town. He is back and making a big difference for Rafa Benitez’ side now as the seek an immediate return to the Premier League.

After Matt Ritchie had given Newcastle the lead from the penalty spot, Murphy attempted to control a long ball over the top. The ball skittered up and to Murphy’s right but he kept his cool and scored his fifth goal of the season [one for Ireland] from a very narrow angle.

He is fast becoming a hero to the Geordie Nation.
