Watch: Marouane Fellaini produced an impressively bad late miss that only he can

Reminding us of his qualities

Manchester United remain unbeaten on their preseason tour after defeating European champions Real Madrid via the worst penalty shoot-out in the entire history of football.

The game finished 1-1 in Santa Clara. A magnificent Anthony Martial assist paved the way for Jesse Lingard’s opener, only for Victor Lindelöf’s horrendously-timed challenge to allow the Spanish giants to level from the spot in the second half.

In the end, only three of the ten penalties taken in the shoot-out were converted. United scored two of them, enough to claim victory.

As hilariously bad as some of the spot-kicks were, those that stayed up late enough to watch the game will testify that were it not for an even more comical miss from a certain afroed Belgian, this penalty shoot-out might never have taken place.

With seven minutes of regulation time to play, Marouane Fellaini, God love him, found himself unmarked in the Real box. Picked out by Scott McTominay’s cross, all Fellaini had to do was side foot the ball home from nine yards out.

Unfortunately for Fellaini, he couldn’t convert. Instead, the ball was fired high and not-so-handsome over the bar, nearly ending up in space as a result. Just look at that trajectory…

United will follow their game with Real by facing their El Clasico rivals Barcelona at FedEx Field, Maryland.
