Jack Byrne is making a late and wonderful case to be handed a plane ticket to France next month.
The Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign gets underway in just 43 days and Byrne is doing no harm whatsoever to his chances of a spot on Martin O’Neill’s bench, at the very least.
Byrne, currently starring for Eredivisie side SC Cambuur on loan from Manchester City, linked up with the senior international set-up in March to train but did not feature in either of the friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia.
7 – Only Bartholomew Ogbeche (9G 2A) has more goals (4) and assists (3) for SC Cambuur than Jack Byrne this Eredivisie season. Prodigy.

The former St Kevin’s Boys midfielder has been one of the stand-out players for Cambuur this season and scored an absolute beauty against second-placed PSV on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 3-1, Byrne popped up on the edge of the area, got the ball out of his feet and hammered it beyond the reach of Jeroen Zoet in the PSV goal.
Absolute screamer from @Jackb_8 for @SCCambuurLwd versus @PSV to make it 3-2!! #psvcam pic.twitter.com/h3AeprgXfE
