WATCH: Irishman’s red card offence(s) sparks 18-man brawl in U21 Premier League match

Almost everyone got involved

Aston Villa might have been accused of lacking fight at times this season, but the same cannot be said for their under-21 team.

Unfortunately they seem to have taken the phrase a little too seriously, with players from the midlands club joining their West Ham counterparts in a brawl involving almost every single outfield player.

Villa led by three goals to two when a series of strong challenges from captain Kevin Toner resulted in a red card for the Irishman, but not before West Ham’s George Dobson and a number of others from both teams had their say in no uncertain terms.

Villa’s youngsters won the game – something the senior side has been unable to do since early February – but the 18-man brawl cast a shadow on what had up until that point been a very competitive and entertaining game.

The Villans sit third in the Under-21 Premier League Division 2, with the late victory lifting them above Monday’s opponents.

Jack Grealish and Adama Traore, both of whom have been involved in first-team action this season, were among those to start the match but had both been withdrawn before the late drama.
