This is great to see.
Jack Byrne has created a piece of Eredivisie history. The Cambuur midfielder, on-loan from Manchester City, became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the club with his strike in today’s 4-1 over Excelsior.
He’s also the first Irishman to score in the Dutch top flight since David Connolly for Feyenoord back in the 2000/2001 season.

The 19 year old played a clever one-two and ran through on goal to slot the ball home like a seasoned pro, and only misplaced one pass throughout the whole game.
Byrne had the highest pass completion rate of any player on the pitch.

Although it may be difficult for the youngster to make the Republic of Ireland squad for next summer’s European Championships, if he continues this form he could get a call up for next spring’s friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia.
Either way, Byrne looks to have a bright future in the game, and it’s great to see young, technically gifted Irish player doing well.
The Dubliner was naturally delighted with his feat, posting this message after the game on his Instagram account.
