Another nervy night of European football, another Irish success story.
Cork City have sealed their place in the third qualifying round of the Europa League after knocking Sweden’s Häcken out of the tournament on Thursday night.
Kevin O’Connor’s deflected volley in the first half was enough to give the Munster men a 1-0 victory on the night, giving them a 2-1 win on aggregate.

Cork had their backs against the wall for most of the match, with the Swedes attacking ferociously in search of that elusive goal, but a supreme defensive effort ensured it was a very frustrating night for the visitors.
Häcken kept pressing right up until the end of the game, but you got the feeling that Cork, buoyed by an incredible crowd at Turner’s Cross were never going to lose this one. The impassioned supporters were electric throughout the entire game, but let their voices be heard in a big way at the final whistle.

Unfortunately, St Patrick’s Athlete weren’t celebrating tonight after losing 1-0 to Dinamo Minsk at Richmond Park on Thursday night, which sent them crashing out 2-1 on aggregate.
