Sometimes power is just plain better than finesse.
Such was the case for Hemel Hempstead, who needed their goalkeeper to pull off a Hail Mary effort in order to secure a draw against Sutton United in stoppage time on Saturday.
Trailing 2-1 with the game moving deep into injury time, keeper Jamie Butler picked the ball up inside his own box and gave it a good old fashioned agricultural hoof up the field.
It turned out to be Butler’s lucky day as his hit-and-hope effort went all the way to the other end of the pitch, bounced inside the opposition box and bobbled into the net. It marked the shot-stoppers first and, what’s sure to be his best ever goal.
Check it out in the video embedded below from around the 1:25 mark.
