We wonder if he would try this in a competitive fixture?
Preseasons can often be arduous.
You rarely get to see too many good games.
Generally lineups are littered with a mixture of young and experienced players or players who are returning from injury.
The ultimate aim is to regain that match fitness before the real stuff begins.
As a result, it is rare that anything of note actually happens.
Not in this case, however.
Thankfully, we have uncovered a gem from MLS side, the San Jose Earthquakes, in their preseason fixture with Reno 1868 FC….yeah, we hadn’t heard of them either.
Anyway, ‘The Quakes’ won their penultimate preseason fixture 1-0 and they have Tommy Thompson to thank with an audacious first half effort.
GOAL!! 😱😱😱
OK, TOMMY!! #Quakes74 take the lead from a sneaky finish by Thompson!

Thomspon scores from close range with a ridiculous back heel.
Though we wonder if he will get the opportunity to try this again once the season starts proper on March 4.
