Easy mistake to make.
Iceland and Ireland are both small, cold, rainy islands in western Europe who weren’t expected to make much of an impact at Euro 2016, but upset the odds, advanced from their groups and beat football royalty.
Following Iceland’s 2-1 victory over England on Monday night, both nations have now also beaten England at a major tournament.
So it’s no wonder Gary Lineker congratulated Ireland, rather than Iceland, during Match of the Day on BBC.
Did Gary Lineker just say “Congratulations to Ireland?!!” #Euros2016 pic.twitter.com/zDA6ZuCFRe
