We’ve all been there.
We’ve all been taught Irish, and possibly another European language, for years during school, and memorised material for the Leaving Cert oral exams.
However, unlike Gareth Bale, we would have had to have more than just three sentences to show after two years work.
The Real Madrid forward took time out from listening to Brian McFadden to speak to Spanish media outlet AS.
Bale hasn’t spoke Spanish in public since joining the La Liga club from Spurs, but has been reportedly taking lessons since moving to the country.
So this was his chance to shine, to show off all his hard work in his first Spanish interview… and it was very awkward.
“The fans are good with me,” Bale said in his adopted country’s native tongue. “It’s a dream for me to play for Real Madrid. I give everything for the shirt.”

In fairness, it’s not easy for anyone to take up another language, but Bale gave the impression he’d been up all night learning off the lines by heart.
At this rate, the Welshman will never be know what Cristiano Ronaldo is muttering under his breath when he fails to pass the ball to him.
H/T 101 Great Goals.
