WATCH: Eric Cantona professes his love for the Irish fans in France and who can blame him?

Eric Cantona sounds like he’s somewhat torn on who to root for on Sunday.

Sure, he’s French through and through, and has 45 caps for his country, but the Manchester United legend has made no secret in recent weeks of his disapproval for Les Bleus head coach Didier Deschamps.

But it’s not just his disdain for the system in place with the French national team that may lead to him favouring the boys in green.

Cantona is actually a massive fan of Ireland, due in no small part to the now-legendary behaviour of the fans at Euro 2016.

Speaking in a bizarre skit for Eurosport, Cantona said: “The awesome Irish fans have been the life of the party.

“Singing for the police, putting babies to sleep, serenading the ladies, they also multiply the bread, change water into beer and they even know the end of Game of Thrones.”

It seems as though King Eric has quite literally afforded Godlike status to the Republic of Ireland supporters in France and he’s not hiding his feelings on who he’s backing when Wales take on Northern Ireland either.

An inexplicably bare-chested Cantona broke into one of our favourite renditions of ‘Will Grigg’s on Fire’ that we’ve heard all tournament.
