This has no place in football.
The Old Firm derby between Celtic and Rangers is one of the biggest and most notorious sporting rivalries in world football. Regardless of the differing fortunes and form of either club, it is always a huge occasion and something of a must-watch affair.
That said, it is never without controversy and the occasional unsavoury talking point.
During Saturday’s midday clash at Ibrox, it didn’t take long for the game’s first talking point and goal, as Celtic took an early lead in the sixth minute. The home side’s Myles Beerman stupidly clattered into Patrick Roberts, who was running away from goal at the right edge of the box, and gave away a needless spot kick.
Celtic’s Scott Sinclair duly stepped up to the spot and dispatched the resulting penalty, sending Wes Foderingham the wrong way in goal. But his celebrations were marred by one Rangers fan who seemingly did the unthinkable in this (or any) day and age and reacted with what looks very much like a racist monkey gesture.
Many watching at home were suitably disgusted.
