It’s now two goals in two games for the Waterford man.
It hasn’t been a bad day for the Irish in the Championship.
Daryl Horgan, who had his first start for Preston North End, put in a superb performance and got his first assist for his new club in his side’s 2-0 win over high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion.

That performance inadvertently helped out Daryl Murphy’s Newcastle United.
The Magpies were under the cosh in their away trip to Brentford after Newcastle were pegged back to 1-1 after Dwight Gayle’s opener.
Brentford were pushing for the winner until super-sub, Murphy, restored Newcastle’s advantage with an excellent 79th minute glancing header after a ridiculous Ayoze Perez cross.

It now seems that Murphy’s Newcastle career is finally beginning to take off after a somewhat frustrating start to life on Tyneside.
Murphy, a late summer signing from Ipswich Town, hasn’t been a part of Rafa Bentiez’s plans for most of the season mostly because of injury.
However, after earning a start and scoring a goal in last week’s FA cup tie with Birmingham and scoring the winning goal for the Toon Army today, it looks like Murphy is delivering a timely reminder to Benitez on why he signed him in the first place.

Newcastle are now leading Brighton at the top of the Championship table by one point.
Murphy may also see further opportunities in the near future as the league’s leading scorer, Gayle, left the fray with a worrying hamstring injury.
