How many Bulgarian footballers does it take to remove a stubborn duck from a football pitch?
A lot more than you might think, it seems.
There was an unusual stoppage in the First Professional Football League clash between Ludogorets and FC Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa at the weekend. Play came to a complete standstill while Ludogorets were leading 1-0 when a feathered pitch invader crash-landed onto the field.
We know what you’re thinking – it’s only a duck. The presence of those little creatures should be a minor inconvenience and anyway, they can easily be picked up and carried off the pitch if they get in the way, right?
Wrong.
Maybe it was the duck’s upbringing, maybe it was having a bad day or maybe it is just an out and out jerk, but for whatever reason, this duck just plain refused to leave the pitch to allow play to continue. This led to a very humorous confrontation between man and (very small) beast as goalkeeper Nikolay Bankov’s nervous attempts to pick the duck up proved to be fruitless.

The duck eventually exited the pitch and play continued. Ludogorets, who entered into the game off the back of a 6-0 spanking at the hands of Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, went on to win the game 4-0.
