Ugly scenes

The details emerging bit-by-bit and the full picture has yet to be revealed, but nevertheless, this isn’t great to see.

After French police used tear gas on English supporters on Thursday night, tensions were high during Friday afternoon in Marseille.

Police once again used tear gas on English supporters, gathered in the city ahead of their opening match against Russia on Saturday evening.

As the following footage from ITV shows, some supporters, believed to be English fans, were involved in fighting.

It does seem to be small pockets of English and Russia fans involved in the trouble, but is still worrying to see.

As was the case on Thursday night, it’s being reported that some of the locals have been involved in the ugly scenes this afternoon, with one person thrown into the sea after being kicked to the ground.

Other video footage suggests that fighting is taking place between English and Russian supporters, with French riot police doing their best to intervene.

Needless to say, let’s hope the police can get a grip of the situation and that the trouble dies down. Something tells us that might not happen any time soon, however.
