WARNING: Gash on Newcastle striker’s knee will ruin your weekend

You really shouldn’t scroll down.

If you’re any way squeamish – like ANY WAY SQUEAMISH – turn back now.

Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic lasted only 10 minutes at the weekend, when the Magpies drew 1-1 with Birmingham City in the third round of the FA Cup.

As the camera panned to the face of Mitrovic, one of the few remaining football hard men, it was clear to see that he was in an awful lot of discomfort.

His grimace spoke volumes as he glanced down at his left leg and he was forced out of the fray, to be replaced by Yoan Gouffran.

The injury was so bad that the Serbian forward required oxygen as he was stretchered off of the playing surface.

Mitrovic’s knee had been sliced wide open in a collision with Birmingham ‘keeper Adam Legzdins, the effects of which you can see below.

“We have to wait,” Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said of Mitrovic’s injury. “It’s a cut, maybe his knee, his leg.

“We’ll have to wait when he gets back from the hospital what they say to us.

“We knew that he was training and just thinking about playing well in this game, and it was a pity because we had to take him off.

“It changed everything for us and changed everything for him, because he was ready for this game and I think for us, in terms of the game plan, it also changed everything.”
