VINE: Why on earth was this goal disallowed? The moment that could ruin Bournemouth’s season

Harsh

Conan Doherty

Sometimes, there are just no words.

But we’ll give it a stab anyway.

Lee Mason, what are you playing at?

Bournemouth were knocked off top spot in the Championship last night after drawing in Cardiff and it’s fair to say that both Middlesbrough and Watford owe the referee a pint or two.

Eddie Howe’s men looked to have regained the lead in a 1-1 tie with just 17 minutes remaining when Callum Wilson hit the net but Lee Mason intervened and disallowed the goal.

Why? We can’t be sure. No-one will ever be sure.

Cardiff ‘keeper Simon Moore had the ball in his hands ready to punt downfield when he blasted it off the back of Wilson who was simply standing his ground, not even facing the stopper.

The ball ricochets over the ‘keeper, hits the crossbar and Wilson follows up to tap in but the referee adjudged somewhere along the way that he had done something wrong.

What’s worse is that he actually then brandished Wilson with a yellow card – for having the ball kicked at him seemingly.

This is a crazy decision. And one which leaves Bournemouth now two points adrift outside the automatic promotion reckoning.

Imagine this was the moment that denied them a Premier League spot.
